J.M. DeMatteis started at DC Comics in the 1970’s and his first published work for DC was in Weird War Tales #70. He continued writing for DC’s horror line of comics and had a stint writing Aquaman. In 1980 he moved to Marvel with runs on The Defenders, Captain America, and Marvel Team-Up. Fast forward to 1987 and he teams up with Mike Zeck and Bob McLeod to write one of Marvel’s most popular stories “Kraven’s Last Hunt”. The story moved across three different titles, Amazing Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, and Web of Spider-Man, with iconic covers created by Mike Zeck.
In the 1990’s he moved back to DC and wrote Justice League of America and the relaunch Justice League International. He crossed back over to Marvel to write Spectacular Spider-Man and took over Amazing Spider-Man in the run from 390-406 and the beginnings of The Clone Saga arc. His career has also included writing for television and winning an Eisner Award in 2004. Don’t miss his appearance on February 2nd and 3rd, 2019.
